Sri Lanka Army troops prevent flooding of parliament from rain waters
Sri Lanka Army troops rushed to the parliamentary complex, which is on an island, surrounded by the Diyawanna Oya, on early Sunday to prevent rain water from flooding the building that houses the country’s supreme legislative body.
Troops of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters – West were called in as an emergency situation developed around the Parliament complex due to the torrential rains prevailing for the last two days.
Accordingly, 63 Army personnel laid sandbags along the sideways of the road that leads to the entrance across the Diyawanna Oya to prevent the premises from inundation around 3.00 am on Sunday (7), the Army Media Unit said.
Troops managed to prevent water flooding the entrance road and took other measures to avoid further seeping of rain water into the complex.
