The Sri Lankan government has received cabinet approval to vest the ownership of the Dr Neville Fernando Hospital in Malabe with the Sri Lanka Air Force.

As a solution to the long-drawn conflict over the medical faculty of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), its teaching hospital, Dr Neville Fernando Hospital in Malabe, was taken over by the government and around 900 of its medical students were absorbed into the Sir John Kotelawala Defense University.

The cabinet has considered a proposal presented for vesting Dr. Neville Fernando Hospital affiliated to the SAITM Medical Faculty with the Sri Lanka Air Force and approved a proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defense to appoint a Committee to conduct negotiations.
