President emphasizes on improving standard of police service to provide quality efficient public service
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena pointing out the importance of creating a conducive environment for police officers to work with a more fulfilling mindset, has instructed relevant officials to establish a committee to inquire the issues of the lower ranking police officers.
President Sirisena meeting with the Senior Deputy Inspector Generals and Deputy Inspector Generals at the President?s office on Monday has said that the duties of the police department should be increased to a level higher than the existing level by improving its quality as an efficient and public friendly service.
Certain suggestions have been presented to the President regarding the steps to be taken within the field to raise the standard and quality of the police service.
The President explaining the possibility to negotiate and discuss matters to solve issues within the field instructed the relevant officials to set up a committee comprising members form Ministry of Law and Order and Police Department as well as the President?s Office to look into the grievances of the lower ranking Police personnel.
The progress of the projects conducted to identify illegal drug trafficking was also reviewed at the meeting and the President instructed the Inspector General of Police to submit a monthly report to him on illegal drug trafficking.
Reviewing the progress of the inquiries into organized crimes, the President said tough regulations and a strong program should be formulated to curb the underworld activities.
