PLA Exhorted to Stick to Socialism with Chinese Characteristics
President Xi Jinping urged the Chinese military to strive this year to realize its goals and missions given by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people.
“We are determined to build a moderately prosperous society and eradicate absolute poverty before the end of this year. We also aim to achieve the goals set for our national defense system and the People’s Liberation Army this year. There are numerous tough tasks for us to do,” said Xi, who also is general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.
“I hope you stick to the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, uphold the Party’s thought on strengthening the military, and implement military strategies in the new era. … You must enhance the sense of mission, be focused on improving your capabilities, make sure all of your jobs are fully done, and unswervingly complete the goals set by the Party and the people.”
Speaking on the New Year on China’s national defense and military reforms, President Xi Jinping stressed China’s efforts in pushing forward reforms in national defense and military systems in 2019.
A grand military parade was held in Beijing on National Day on October 1 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) he recalled.
He meanwhile highlighted the 70th anniversary celebrations for the establishment of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy and the PLA Air Force.
Also in the past year, China hosted the 7th Military World Games, and the country’s first self-developed aircraft carrier was commissioned.
“The people’s army will always serve as a great wall of steel that guards our country,” Xi stressed.
In the CMC orders for the year President Xi, Chairman also asked the armed forces to maintain a high level of readiness and step up emergency and combat training.
The order required strengthened joint command in training. It also stressed integrating new forces into the joint operations system.
Force-on-force training should also be strengthened and the evaluation system should be improved, according to the order.
Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, has signed an order for releasing the trial regulation on military supervision work.
The regulation will take effect on Feb. 1, 2020, according to a statement released on Monday.
The regulation was introduced to establish an authoritative and efficient military supervision system with complete coverage under a unified command.
It is of great significance to further strengthening supervision over the exercise of power and advancing the anti-graft campaign in the military, the statement said.
The 62-article regulation has specified works including the setup of supervisory commissions, their main duties and the supervision on the commissions and inspectors.
