With large number of oil tankers heading to the country it has become important for New Delhi to deploy the Indian Navy ships to support the same.

India has condemned the missile attack of June 12, 2019 targeting Al-Abha airport in Saudi Arabia injuring and endangering the lives of innocent civilians but has not commented on the tanker attacks previously as well as the recent one which has been claimed by the US as launched by Iran.

This issue is likely to be discussed during the visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and some statements from the Indian side on the subject can be anticipated but this may be neutral. India may also press for limited waiver to draw oil from Iran.

Indian Navy remains committed to ensuring safety of Indian maritime trade and merchant vessels operating in the region and contributing towards maintaining a stable and peaceful Indian Ocean Region says the press release
