Nepal US Relations – Nepal army Inducts Two M-28 Skytruck

The United States has officially handed over the two M-28 Skytrucks to Nepali Army on December 18, 2019.

Mr. Randy Berry, Ambassador of the U.S. to Nepal, handed over the miniature replica of Skytruck to Chief of General (CGS) Lieutenant General SaradGiri during the official ‘M-28 Handover Ceremony’ organized at Mid Airbase, Gauchar Barrack. The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Purna Chandra Thapa graced the handover ceremony as the chief guest.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Officiating Director General of Army Aviation Brigadier General Dhanendra Bahadur Shah delivered the welcome speech followed by the remarks from H.E. Mr. Berry. During his remarks, H.E. Mr. Berry expressed his strong belief that the arrival of the two Skytrucks will bring new capabilities to the Nepali Army and will also support Nepal’s response to natural disasters on every landing strip in the nation, revolutionizing NA’s abilities to respond in a quicker and better equipped manner.

Delivering his closing remarks, COAS Gen Thaha expressed his gratitude to the government of USA and US Embassy in Nepal for the continuous support.

Present in the Handover Ceremony were H.E Ambassador of the Government of Nepal to the United States of America (USA), Chief of Staff (CGS), General Officers of Nepali Army, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Defence, representative of US Embassy in Nepal, Media Personnel and Officers and Other Ranks of Nepali Army.

The C-145A Skytruck is a light cargo and troop transport aircraft designed and manufactured for the US Air Force (USAF). The aircraft is primarily used to assist Aviation Foreign Internal Defence (AvFID) missions of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).

The C-145As were deployed to support theatre special operations commands in Afghanistan and eastern Africa. The Air Force Special Operations Warfare Center operates up to ten C-145A Skytrucks and is expected to deploy an additional six by 2015.

The transport aircraft can be reconfigured to perform precision combat airdrop, combat search-and-rescue, humanitarian assistance, casualty evacuation and disaster relief missions.

in recent years there is growing cooperation between the US and Nepal Army. The ‘Nepal-US 2nd Land Forces Talk (LFT)’, a two-day interaction between the Nepali Army (NA) and the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) commenced at the Nepali Army Headquarters on October 23, 2019.

19 officials of the Nepali Army led by Major General Ishwor Hamal and 16 officials of USARPAC led by Major General Daniel Francis McDaniel participated in the interaction. The interaction focused on capability enhancement of Nepali Army in Peacekeeping Operations (PKO), HADR, Force Professionalization and Military to Military Experience Sharing.
