Manipur Insurgency – Bomb Attacks Potent Threat

At least 18 cadres of the proscribed PLA/RPF were arrested in connection with the series of bomb blasts that occurred in the state in recent months, Imphal West district police said on 21 December.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Manipur Police, ThemthingNgashangva, said 10 members of the proscribed group were arrested earlier and the remaining eight were arrested.

Miscreants involved in the Thangal bazar blast, where one civilian and five police personnel were injured, are among the arrested, the DIG said at a press conference in Imphal on Saturday.

Among the recently arrested, IromThaja alias Lata Devi, 29, wife of Hijam Suresh Singh of LangthabalKunjaHeinouMakhong, Imphal West was the main accused in connection with most of the series of bomb blast, including the Thangal bazar blast, he said.

The DIG further said that the arrested men are actively involved in concealing of PLA cadres, harbouring and providing tactical support to carry out terrorist activities.

They were also involved in helping raise funds and providing support to the PLA cadres as per the instruction of a commander of the group, Rishikanta alias Ranbir, said to be a major of the underground group based in Tamu, Myanmar, he added. During interrogation, Thaja further disclosed that she joined the group in 2017 through one Bashanta of Andro and Manikanta of Lakhinagar, Assam and currently working under the command of Rishikanta, Ngashangva said. He further stated, she told the police that one improvised explosive device (IED) was planted and exploded by Manikanta on October 1, 2019 at KakchingKhongnang Mari Phangba.
