Manipur Governor orders to seal borders

The governor of Manipur has released an order to strictly seal the international borders on April 10 to 11 to prevent smuggling of arms, contraband liquor and infiltration of insurgent outfits to Manipur and to prevent from proxy voting by Myanmarese nationals during polling days.

It is necessary to close the Indo-Myanmar International Border, as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India, said the order signed by special secretary (Home) Kh. Raghumani Singh. The State government felt that appropriate action is required to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in smooth conduct of the upcoming general election of 17th Lok Sabha, it said. Further, it is also ordered that the customs and immigration activities at Moreh Border Gate shall remain closed on them mentioned dates, it added.
