According to Tibet news network report, at 0920 hours (Chinese time) on April 24, the construction team of more than 270 persons and large-scale machinery, on the orders, entered the construction site, and started the work of fixing the railroad switch and dial connection of Golmud River Line on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Line, marking the official linking of Ge (Ge’ermu/Golmud) – Ku (Kuerlei/Korla) Railway with Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

The Golmud – Korla Railway starts from Golmud City in Qinghai Province and passes through Mangya City into Ruoqiang County, Yuli County and Korla City of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with a total length of about 1213.7 kilometres. The construction of the fixing the railroad switch of Golmud River Line of the Golmud hub renovation project carried out this time is the last large-scale and key construction of the fixing the railroad switch since the construction of the Golmud-Korla Railway in 2015.

The Golmud hub renovation project will connect the Golmud-Korla Railway with the existing Qinghai-Tibet Railway, laying a solid foundation for the full opening of the Golmud-Korla (Qinghai Section) at the end of June 2020, and also marking the final sprint of the Golmud-Korla Railway construction.

The Golmud River Line is located 7.3 kilometres southwest of Golmud Station. It is an important strategic passage connecting the existing Qinghai-Tibet Railway’s Ge (Ge’ermu/Golmud) – La (Lhasa) section and the newly built Ge (Ge’ermu/Golmud) – Ku (Kuerlei/Korla) Railway. It mainly connects Xining, Korla, Lhasa and other directions. The Golmud River Line is the line group where the trains of Golmud-Korla Railway and Qinghai-Tibet Railway meet and separate.
