Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approves electronic warfare systems, prototype testing of DRDO-designed trawl assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks.

The EW systems will considerably enhance capabilities for electronic warfare of the services particularly in the desert and plains sector.

Electronic Warfare Systems for the Army are being designed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured locally by the Indian industry.

These systems will be used in deserts and plains and will provide comprehensive Electronic Support and Counter Measure capabilities to the field formations in both communication and other aspects of Electronic Warfare.

DRDO has developed a number of indigenous electronic warfare system such as Sujav. It is a vehicle based compact communication Electronic Warfare system with jamming facilities in VHF and UHF frequencies for Low Intensity Conflict applications. More than seven numbers of systems have been deployed by Indian Army.

The trawls will improve the local de-mining capability of the Indian Army in the densely mined terrain in the desert and the plains.

DAC also approved the inclusion of Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) in Defence Procurement Procedure so that start up can participate in capital procurement.
