The possibility of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s toxicology screening for poisoning maybe alarming adding to the conspiracy theories that surround Pak’s top leaders.

The New Pakistan reported that a leading University College Hospital and Harley Street Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Hematologists at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital has called for screening of former Prime Minister for possible poisoning due to sudden drop in the platelet counts and delay in recovery.

Dr David R Lawrence has written as per the News Report: “If the platelet count does not respond, he may be considered for possible toxicology screen. We want to target a platelet count between 50-150 to allow safe treatment with anti-platelet therapy.”

Seeing the report, Hussain Nawaz, the eldest son of former prime minister, has indicated that the family suspected that Nawaz may have been poisoned while in the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). This is of course unverified but given history of rapid deterioration of health of the senior Sharif this may need raise concerns after receipt of further medical reports.

The health of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had suffered due to major medical challenges due to impact on the immunization system and multiple complications arising from administration of drugs for control of the same which in turn resulted in attacks on other organs such as a weak heart that has seen byepass in the past.

Nawaz was admitted to a hospital after a drop in his platelets count. Nawaz was not able to generate platelets naturally and he was being given steroids and medicines in order to increase the platelet count.

However, the treatment to increase platelet count posed an increased risk of a heart attack.

Importantly another top leader who has been jailed Co Chair of the Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari who has been now released on bail also faced a similar medical predicament of low platelet count with some analysts claiming that his would be a large plot to medically decapacitate the country’s top political leaders.
